The use of the words ‘ aku’, ‘saya’, ‘kamu’, ‘engkau’, ‘dia’, ‘mereka’ and ‘awak’ is one of the social deixis aspects which, broadly speaking, refer to the selection and the use of appropriate names to refer to another person or oneself. Some of the social deixis are built through the deixical element of Person. Therefore, this article aims to explain about the social deixis in the interaction that takes place in the Kedah Malay community particularly in Kampung Kubang Lintah, the district of Lepai, Kota Setar (DKKS). The data collection of this study is carried out through the recording of spontaneous conversations. The informant are the speakers of Kedahan dialect. This study applies a qualitative approach according to the deixical analysis framework as put forth by Huang (2014). This study shows that the social deixis is closely related to the person deixis elaborated through pronouns. The circumstances like the intonation, the circumstances of the deixis participant, the speech goal to name a few, stand as the most important sources of reference and further contribute to the deictic element interpreted. As the implication, the DKSS which happens to be the Kedahan sub-dialect is seen to have displayed a unique deixis not only created through the language but also which involves a wider concept. The outcome of the analysis proves that every deixis speaker plays a role as a contributor, as has been illustrated through the speech created.
