摘要:In this research, the researcher sought to examine the contribution that continuing professionaldevelopment makes to national development. Particular reference is made to teachers’ continuing professionaldevelopment as one of the most dominant social services that has enhanced the development of Nigeria in the lastthirty years. Theories and policies related to continuing professional development as well as the international andnational dimensions that have been dominant in the field are briefly explored. A comparison in the application ofteachers’ continuing professional development to national development is then made with South Africa with thehope that some lessons would be learnt, and on the basis of which we might make some recommendations forfurther growth in Nigeria.
