  • 摘要:Suicide is a major public health problem and complex with psychological, social, biologicalfactors involved. Psychological and social impact of suicide on the family and society isenormous and often has a major ripple effect. Over 800,000 people die by suicide across theworld each year, meaning by we lose one precious life every second and these number of liveslost with suicide exceeds the number of deaths due to homicide and war combined. Suicideattempts and suicidal behaviors are about 20 times more common than suicide figures [1].India has by far the largest number of suicides in the world, accounting for nearly a third of theglobal total. It also has the highest rate of suicides among young people; those aged 15 to 29years as stated in WHO report released in 2014. Suicide is the second leading cause of deathamong youth age 15-24 years. Every hour, one student commits suicide in India, according to2015 data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In 2015, the number of studentsuicides stood at 8,934. In the five years leading to 2015, 39,775 students killed themselves [2].The number of attempted suicides, many unreported, is likely to be much higher.
