摘要：The present paper exhibits the progress made by shrimp farmers of Gujarat by adopting Litopenaeusvannamei farming which has become a profitable venture for them. Shrimp farming in India has recorded remarkablegrowth during the last three decades especially in coastal states. Optimum use of potential areas and diversified farmingpractices has not only provided tremendous opportunity to farmers residing along coastal areas but also brought themprosperity. Gujarat has the highest productivity of 13.59 MT/ha/year in L.vannameifarming. In Gujarat, four districtsviz; Valsad, Navsari, Surat and Bharuch are the major contributors for shrimp production having 95% of state shrimpfarmer’s population with the potential area of 69,583.91ha.Primary data was collected from 30 shrimp farmers of Valsddistrict by using structured interview schedule. An attempt has been made to assess an economic viability of L.Vannamei farming and extent of contribution towards the uplift of their socio-economic status. This study will be ofimmense help to encourage the farmers of other areas to get involved in shrimp farming to earn better livelihood.
