摘要:Forsterite (Mg2SiO4) one of the most important refractory materials which are being extensively used insteel plants and iron industries. The present study investigates effect of sintering at different temperature to enhance thephysical and mechanical properties of forsterite refractories doped with kaolin were done. It was found that the bulkdensity, bending strength and compressive strength increased with increasing kaolin content, up to 2 to 4%. Further, asthe kaolin content is increased to 6% it starts to decrease due to formation of more mullite phase. Percentage apparentporosity decreases with increases the kaolin concentration. Each composition sintering temperatures were done at 1200,1300 and 1400C having soaking time for 3 hour. XRD and SEM analysis was done to the sintered forsterite. Theforsterite crystals were developed after heat treatment were deeply analyzed as per there uses as a refractory materialsand it is found that forsterite with kaolin content of 2-4% serves as better refractory material than pure forsterite.
