摘要:Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is usually used for carbonated beverage and water bottles. Plastic isdifficult to biodegrade and involves processes either to recycle or reuse. The construction industry is in requiring offinding cost effective materials for increasing the strength of concrete structures. In this paper the fibres from wasteplastic bottles were added in different percentages in the M40 grade concrete. The post consumed waste plastic bottleswere shredded into fibres of specific size and shape. The plastic fibre dimensions were used corresponding to 30, 50,70aspect ratio are 60 x 2, 100 x 2, 140 x 2, (length x width). The fine aggregates were replaced by PET fibres with 0.6%,0.8%, 1.0% and 1.2% by weight. The slump test, compressive, split tensile strength and flexural strength tests wereperformed on the concrete after 28 days of curing phase. The test results obtained were compared with controlspecimen and the results were plotted in the form of graph. The compressive strength improved a little with theincorporation of plastic fibre, tensile strength and flexural strength tests gave significant improvement over controlledspecimen .optimum dosages of PET fiber volume fractions, such as 1% to attain maximum compressive strength andmaximum tensile strength were found for the mix.
