摘要:Omega 3 fatty acids are long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC – PUFA) which are essential fornormal growth and prolonged health of higher eukaryotes. Nutritionally, eicosapteanoic acid (EPA) anddocosahexanoic acid (DHA) are the most important component of the omega 3 fatty acids family, as they havesignificant human health benefits such as brain functioning, reducing cardiovascular, neurons and immune systemrelated diseases. Microalgae are primary source of EPA and DHA.EPA is polyunsaturated fatty acids that act as aprecursor for prostaglandin – 3(which inhibits platelet aggregation), thromboxane – 3, and leukotriene – 5 groups. Theother marine sources such as fish and krill do not produce omega 3 fatty acids, but rather accumulate it from the algaeand their prey consume in their natural environment. The microalgae Tetraselmis sp. is a potential source ofeconomically valuable eicosapteanoic acid and docosahexanoicacid.Thus this paper explain the extraction of omega 3fatty acids directly from the microalgae through cell disruption method.
