摘要:Disposal of plastic waste is a serious problem worldwide due to its non bio-degradability. Theplastic waste when mixed with bitumen improves mechanical properties in particular road mix. Bitumen is usedas a binding material in construction of flexible pavement, when waste plastic is mixed with bitumen it increasesits water resistivity capacity and stability. The use of waste plastic as a partial aggregate replacement inbituminous mix products often suffers from weak bonding between the plastic surface and the bitumen. Thereplacement of bitumen by plastic is by 5%,7%,9%,11% & 13%. This work reports on the use of plastic waste andchemical additives in order to improve the performance of the mechanical properties of bituminous mixtures.Theplastics were treated using a strong oxidising mixture of dichromate and sulphuric acid while the bitumen wastreated with a cross linking agent, polyethyleneimine. This improvement is attributed to an increase in thebonding forces between the aggregates and the bitumen.
