摘要：Air pollution is one of the major environmental problems nowadays. Air Quality Index (AQI) is anumber which helps public to know the level of air quality status in an area. The Kerala state pollution control boardhas established the ambient air quality monitoring stations throughout the state and monitor the four criteria pollutantssuch as Suspended particulate matter (SPM),Respirable suspended particulate matter (RSPM), Sulphur dioxide (SO2)and Nitrogen dioxide (NO2). As per USEPA, AQI was evaluated for all the monitoring stations in Thiruvananthapuramand Ernakulam, which are the two important cities in Kerala. Factor analysis was done and principal components wereextracted and new air quality index (NAQI) was calculated based on that also. The temporal variation of AQI in all themonitoring stations was also carried out.
