摘要:Full steam through the exhibition Den Gamle By’s major Aarhus exhibition will open in 2017 with a rich fabric of different stories. One section will show how, starting as a provincial town in the mid-1800s, Aarhus was transformed by the interaction between the port and railways, trade and industrial companies, to become the second largest city in Denmark. As a symbol of this important story Den Gamle By has chosen to display a 9-metre long steam locomotive weighing 32 tons. The locomotive, F 694, will take up much of exhibition space and thereby help to emphasize how crucial the railways were to the comprehensive development and industrialization Aarhus underwent in the second half of the 19th century. F 694 has special links with Aarhus. It was built here in Frich’s locomotive factory in 1920, and then served between Aarhus Harbour and the city’s stations for a number of years. Periodically F 694 underwent maintenance at the Danish Rail central workshop, which was one of the largest workplaces in Aarhus.
