其他摘要:This article considers the relationship between homeschooling and religiousfundamentalism by focusing on their intersection in the philosophies and practices ofconservative Christian homeschoolers in the United States. Homeschooling provides anideal educational setting to support several core fundamentalist principles: resistance tocontemporary culture; suspicion of institutional authority and professional expertise;parental control and centrality of the family; and interweaving of faith and academics. It isimportant to recognize, however, that fundamentalism exists on a continuum; conservativereligious homeschoolers resist liberal democratic values to varying degrees, and efforts tofoster dialogue and accommodation with religious homeschoolers can ultimately helpstrengthen the broader civic fabric.
