摘要：Este artigo mostra a dinâmica da colonização recente no Sudeste de Roraima, a partir das ações dos governos com relação à ocupação de “novas terras”, contextualizando as políticas de ordenação do território e a transformação dos espaços naturais. Assim, apresenta a trajetória da colonização recente para entender seu significado, refletindo os encontros e, sobretudo, os desencontros entre a política e a natureza. No estado de Roraima, particularmente na região Sudeste, a ocupação dos espaços rurais ocorrida nos últimos 30 anos, vem simultâneo ao desinteresse político, à utilização de sistema de cultivos não apropriados e à exploração indiscriminada dos recursos naturais. A substituição da mata por cultivos e pastos no coração da floresta mostra, de forma clara e preocupante, as transformações que a ação “institucional, demográfica e cultural” provoca na natureza. Nesta panorâmica, ainda se observa o drama da população indígena, suas culturas e paisagens bem contrastadas, minoritárias e pressionadas pelos efeitos da ação colonizadora. Portanto, os estudos básicos sobre modelos de colonização, espaço agrário e espaços naturais, levantamento de dados socioeconômicos e ambientais, observações diretas em campo, evidenciam que, o balanço, ecológico, socioeconômico e político administrativo nos assentamentos rurais do sudeste de Roraima não é satisfatório para o desenvolvimento da região.
