摘要：Este artigo mostra, os efeitos negativos da urbanização desordenada sobre o meio ambiente, na cidade de Boa Vista capital do Estado de Roraima. A área de estudo compreende a microbacia do Igarapé Grande, que integra a bacia do Rio Branco, e os bairros situados ao longo de sua abrangência. Considerando a inadequação do presente crescimento urbano, ao equilíbrio ambiental, é fundamental identificar os fatores que contribuem para a degradação desses ambientes e questionar a atuação dos poderes que podem coibir tais práticas. Os impactos mais visíveis na microbacia estão representados pelo aumento da poluição hídrica, assoreamento, ocupação predial em margens, e no leito dos igarapés, remoção de mata ciliar, erosão e queimadas revelando uma urbanização desordenada, que transgride a legislação existente, e demonstra frágil intervenção governamental.
