摘要:The article analyzes the socialization processes of the children and grandchildren of a couple of small dairy farmers in the urban area of Castanhal (Pará, Brazil). It focuses, specifically, on the aspects related to the productive sphere, expressed in the successive stages by which the members of the new generations get engaged with labor. As research method, it was employed the case study, supported by semi-structured interviews and direct observation. Results indicate that the engagement of children in milk production caused their detachment from the schooling process, which later limited their possibilities to transition between work options. Such pattern reverts in the education of the grandchildren, which is characterized by the priority given to formal education, instead of previously valued forms of family labor. Due to the increasing urbanization of the municipality, it is concluded that the different configurations assumed by the processes of child socialization in the focused social group reflect a reorientation of life projects, related to the recognition of the limitations imposed by the new predominant logic of urban space occupation.
