摘要:Effects of sintering temperature with varied amount of silicon carbide and titaniaadditives on electrochemical behaviour of sintered mullite-carbon ceramic composite insulfuric acid was investigated. The samples were produced through solid-state reactionsintering of kaolinite and graphite after incorporating varied amount of the mentionedadditives. The raw materials were mixed through ball mill. Standard sample wereproduced and sintered at temperature range of 13000C to 15000C. The samples werecharacterized for porosity and bulk density. The porosity of the samples was determined.Electrochemical behaviour of the samples was investigated using potentio-dynamicmethod. It was observed that due to decreased porosity, corrosion resistance of sampleswithout additive increased initially with sintering temperature. Increased porosity makesthe samples to be more susceptible to attack in the corrosive media. 4% titania improveson corrosion resistance of the sample in sulphuric acid. Sample C1 is highly resistant tocorrosive action of 0.8 M sulfuric acid. 4% silicon carbide improved on the corrosionresistance of the sintered ceramic samples. The sample with 3% titania and 5% siliconcarbide in 0.5 M sulfuric acid is more resistant to corrosion at 14000C. Sample C1sintered at 13000C is considered to possess excellent corrosion resistance in 0.8 Msulphuric acid.
