摘要:This paper presents studies on simultaneous removal of hardness and fluoride from water by chemicaland electrocoagulation processes. Influence of parameters like pH, applied voltage and contact time were studied.Results obtained with synthetic solutions indicated a maximum hardness removal 67-78% for the concentrations ofhardness of 700, 1000, 1200, and 1300 mgL-1 and a fluoride removal of 74-90% for Fluoride concentrations of 2, 3, and5 mgL-1 investigated at an applied voltage of 15 V and a contact time of 5 hours. Chemical coagulation was found to beineffective (5-8%) for removal of hardness but was effective for removal of fluoride up to 80-90%. When hardness andFluorides are present together, fluoride removal reduced to 57-65% in the presence of hardness (1300 mgL-1) andhardness removal was negligible (around 10-15%). Alum coagulation was optimum at a pH of 6.5. Ferric salts areineffective for removal of Fluorides and hardness from water.
