摘要：XML is a standard of data exchange between web applications such as in e-commerce, elearningand other web portals. The data volume has grown substantially in the web and inorder to effectively retrieve or store these data, it is recommended to be physically or virtuallyfragmented and distributed into different nodes. Basically, fragmentation design contains oftwo parts: fragmentation operation and fragmentation method. There are three different kindsof fragmentation operation: Horizontal, Vertical and Hybrid, determines how the XML shouldbe fragmented. The aim of this paper is to give an overview on the fragmentation designconsideration.
