摘要：The Federal Reserve conducts monetary policy inorder to achieve maximum employment, stable prices, andmoderate long-term interest rates. Monetary policy currentlyimplemented by the Federal Reserve and other major centralbanks is not intended to benefit one segment of the populationat the expense of another by redistributing income andwealth. Any decisions regarding redistribution are consideredto be the province of fiscal policy, which is determinedby elected policymakers. However, it is probably impossibleto avoid the redistributive consequences of monetary policymaking.As this article will explore, households differ inmany dimensions — including their assets and debt, incomesources, and vulnerability to unemployment — and monetarypolicy affects all these factors differently.
