摘要:Metro Manila is one of the largest andmost densely populated cities inthe world. It is estimated that 35%of more the 20 million inhabitants of the cityare living in slum areas with limited access tosanitation, healthcare and education.Ulingan community in Malabon is oneof the poorest. It is located on the border ofa garbage mountain once known as “TheSmokey Mountain”, a slum officially closed inthe early 90’. The exchange residences providedby the Philippine government resettlementsprogram built in remote areas in theprovince where no facilities are provided. Inthose artificially created communities, it iseven more difficult for the families to find workand sustain their livelihood. Inhabitants whodecided to stay in Metro Manila still make theirliving of garbage scavenging or production oftoxic, community-made charcoal widely usedin the area as a cheaper substitution for gasand electricity.
