Recently, demand for the use of B-spline surfaces to fit point clouds by geometric iterative method (GIM) is increasing due to its simplicity, scalability, and generality. Unlike conventional method, GIM fits point clouds by repositioning control points iteratively on the basis of geometrical rules. In this paper, we propose novel methods for a surface generation in ship hull form modeling using GIM. The proposed techniques based on GIM include surface skinning, local flattening, and surface fairing using thin plate energy. We applied these techniques to a bulk carrier data to demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithms.
