摘要:Bus location systems are focused to enhance service qualityof public transportation. The traditional issues in the buslocation system are difficulties to install expensive specialdevices and expensive operational expenses for network systems.Recently, some researchers utilize smartphones to measurethe environment and to collect information. Additionally,participatory sensing methods, where many common peoplecollaborate to collect data with their own smartphone, havebeen focused for bus location systems. On the contrary, thedeveloped application for the participatory sensing method hasan issue of energy management because the application workscontinuously in a background process, and consumes muchenergy. This paper proposes a collaborative mechanism withBluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon devices and smartphonesto realize a bus location system. The proposed mechanism employsBLE devices as a beacon device that triggers our specialapplication for smartphones. Therefore, the special applicationcan be automatically launched when a beacon message arriveson the smartphone, and it does not work continuously in abackground process. As a result, the proposed system cancollect bus location by smartphones in participatory sensingmanner without excess energy consumption. In the experiment,we have set up for the bus route of our university transportationservice into the smartphone application. Experimental resultsdemonstrated that the developed application can measure itsposition by a location service and upload the measurementlocation automatically.
