摘要：This paper offers a novel method and subsequent partnership toengage and teach university students. Prior to 11 September2001 or 9/11, much of the public safety readiness responsibilitywas limited to a few government officials. Today, public safetyis much more widely managed. For this effort, we developed astrategic partnership between state and local government andPurdue University that provides an improved environment forlearning and for public health and safety. By using an exercisedeployment Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) in a Point ofDistribution (POD) exercise, our efforts with partneringbetween state and local government and the university providebenefits and opportunities to each. Simultaneously, we tested afull scale POD mass prophylaxis response to an anthrax attackthrough teaching and training university students who also gainvaluable internship-like experience. The ongoing relationshipbetween government and the university’s student talent canbenefit all in developing paths for future research and dataanalysis expected of academia and of improving public safetyand responsiveness of government.
