摘要:The topic of this huge volume, with as manyas a thousand pages, is Neolithic Europe –as seen through the eyes of archaeologyand some closely-related disciplines. Asthe book’s preface informs us, it comprisesthe work of over seventy authors frommore than forty-five institutions in fifteenseparate countries. The handbook is dividedinto four parts. The first part (Part I) is anintroduction written by the book’s editorsChris Fowler, Jan Harding and DanielaHofmann, explaining the purpose andgoals of the book, describing the topics ofparticular chapters and thematic sectionsand offering some basic explanation. With such a huge number of chapters, itis difficult and perhaps inappropriate tocomment on every text in this review. Wehave decided to concentrate our attentionon three areas of interest. These are the processes of Neolitization, especially in the Balkans and Central Europe, followed by the chapters dealing with the phenomenon of households and burials, and, finally, the chapters connected methodologically with the scientific methods used in archaeology, including economy, subsistence and bioarchaeology.
