摘要：The works of Albee reflected the state of rejection and indignation that invaded the American society in the middle of the last century as manifested in the infiltration of trade forms and industrialization into all fields of life. His first works, including in his play A Delicate Balance Albee focused on the themes of loss and anxiety that the American individual suffered in that period. This paper will try to examine the reasons that drove the main characters in this play to anxiety and loss, and how they lived in complete isolation by their obsession over aging and fear. Also, this paper will touch on the deterioration of relations among family members under the influence of the “American dream” project.
