The second edition of the Mapa del Patrimonio Musical en Espana (Map of Musical Heritage in Spain).

The second edition of the Mapa del Patrimonio Musical en Espana (Map of Musical Heritage in Spain) is now available online at http://musicadanza.es/mapatrimonio musical/. This map, sponsored by the Centro de Documentation de Musica y Danza, Madrid, was presented at the 2015 IAML-IMS Congress in New York, and is now updated and expanded with two new layers: immaterial heritage and sound archives. The Spanish section of the IAML Working Group on Access to Music Archives was instrumental in completing the work of this project. Indeed, in 2014, the Spanish Branch of IAML wrote an agreement with the Spanish Catholic Church Archivist's Association to create the Guia de Archivios y Fondos Musicales de la Iglesia Catolica en Espana (Guide to Archives and Musical Fonds of the Catholic Church in Spain). Institutions were sent a Word document with information on their holdings for updating, and the resultant information was used both as a guide to the archives and musical fonds of the Catholic Church in Spain, as well as for the Spanish part of the updated Directory of Libraries (RISM-C).
In addition to the music project, there is now a companion site devoted to dance: Mapa del Patrimonio de Danza en Espana (Map of the Dance Heritage in Spain). The site may be found online at http://musicadanza.es/mapatrimoniodedanza/.
Both of these projects are Web publications which use Google Maps to present, in an interactive way, all the institutions that hold original music and dance sources, and/or holdings related to dance activity. So far it includes 110 institutions all over the country.
The information is visually provided on a map with four types of markers or flags in different colors, that show the location of the different institutions:
* Archives
* Libraries
* Documentation and Research Centers
* Museums and collections
Besides providing direct access to these institutions by browsing the map and clicking on the flags, the user can also go to the content through a search engine that retrieves information for any word or any data field (name of institutions, but also addresses, content, etc.). The search results provide a list of institutions and their place on the map, and by clicking on them, a small window opens with the name and address, and "more info" that takes us to the institution's record. Each record includes the following information:
* Location data of the institution and sometimes links to catalogue or inventory of all or part of the fonds
* RISM siglum (for those institutions that hold musical sources as well)
* Brief description on custody documents and, where appropriate, a list of fonds, collections, or legacies
* Specific bibliography on the fonds of the institution
In addition to the map, the information is supplemented by a selection of bibliographic references about general aspects of the music and dance heritage in Spain.
