摘要:This study investigates the use of collective bargaining as an effective instrument for management of conflict ineducational institutions. The study setting was the University of Lagos (UNILAG) using the Academic StaffUnion of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), UNILAG Chapter. Stratifiedrandom probability sampling method was used to select 120 respondents. Data was collected via thequestionnaire, interviews, and literature search. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics; frequencies andsimple percentages with the aid of statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 15.0. The study revealsthat: effective collective bargaining positively affects productivity; there exists an established procedure forconflict resolution in the universities; and that collective bargaining is a veritable instrument for themanagement of conflict in the universities. The paper recommended that the University should adopt conflictacceptance strategy and focus on its effective resolution strategies to convert the manifestation of conflict intobenefits for the university.
