摘要：In Bangladesh, Office of the Deputy Commissioner is the key role player in the district with a big number oftraditional functions right from the time of East India Company. Although the original pattern of districtadministration remains more or less unchanged but there appears to be gradual transformation of theconventional character of district administration. The purpose of the research is to overview the evolution ofthe Office of the Deputy Commissioner, explore the extent of transformation of the traditional functions andidentify factors. This study is based on historical (qualitative) method of research where data have beencollected from both primary and secondary sources. The study found that although several traditional functionsof Deputy Commissioner have been transformed but some features still resemble the features of TraditionalPublic Administration. The research has identified various factors that induced and or influenced thetransformation process
