摘要:Purpose: The rise of emerging multinational enterprises(EMNEs) puzzled international business scholars andchallenged the validity of the well-established stream ofthoughts in the international business community, hence, thepurpose of this paper is to put the Uppsala model up againstthe wall in order to probe its ability to explain thisphenomenon.Methodology: Three well-known databases – Scopus, ProQuestand Web of Science – were used. Keywords queried were: (1)Uppsala Internationalization (2) Internationalization model(3) (Uppsala Internationalization model) and (Emerging ORMarket) and (4) Emerging Market Multinational. Of the 641hits, 286 were duplicates. After an in-depth analysis of the 355remaining studies, 23 were analyzedFindings: A search in the specialized literature indicates thatstudies in the internationalization of EMNEs are mainlyfocused in Asian and East European companies. Resultsindicate that most studies either support or partially supportthe use of the Uppsala model to explain the rise of EMNEs.Hence this conceptual paper suggests that the Uppsala modelcan explain the rise of EMNEs, now understood as emergingmarket multinational business enterprises (EMMBEs)Originality: This conceptual paper organizes the trajectory ofthe Uppsala Model splitting it into: the classic and networkperspective and the MBE era. Thus, we hope to contribute inan attempt to organize the thinking behind the evolution ofthe Uppsala model. This paper also presents the EMMEcontingent Uppsala model in order to address the call ofAharoni (2014) for a contingent theory
