摘要：Projects make a vital contribution to industrialization and hence the growth ofa nation's economy. The importance of projects in the development of anynation cannot be overemphasized. Despite the increased project managementawareness some projects still fail. The general objective of this study was to investigatethe effect of extrinsic factors on the failure of investment projects in Rwanda. Thisresearch sought to answer these research questions: To what extent do politicalfactors lead to failure of investment projects financed by Development Bank ofRwanda (BRD)? To what extent do environmental factors lead to failure of investmentprojects financed by BRD? To what extent do regulation and legal factors lead tofailure of investment projects financed by BRD? And to what extent do economicfactors lead to failure of investment projects financed by BRD. The research adopteddescriptive design to collect the quantitative and qualitative data. The targetpopulation for the study was 58. The sample size of the study was 58 respondents fromthe three departments and project beneficiary who were purposively selected. Fiftythreerespondents answered the questionnaires. The research study used aquestionnaire as instrument for primary data collection. Secondary data was obtainedfrom relevant literature like journals, internet and books. Quantitative data wasanalysed through the use of frequency distribution, mean scores and standarddeviations. From the study, many factors were identified as extrinsic causes ofinvestment project failure. In conclusion, the study found out that there were a numberof extrinsic factors that caused investment projects failure among projects financed byBRD. In general, extrinsic factors contributed to some extent to the failure ofinvestment projects. As part of recommendations, project managers should ensurecommitment to the key stakeholders and re-commitment whenever change arises andvisibility of these commitments. In addition, monitoring and evaluation can lead totimely implementation of projects, the right project organizational structure as well asgood financial accountability and management, provision of sufficient resources asand when required and good project resource planning and controlling
