摘要:Gallbladder cancer is a relatively rare cancer of thegastrointestinal tract, most commonly detected(approximately 95% of cases) in the most advancedclinical stage IV and burdened with high mortalityrate. This is mainly due to the nonspecificsymptoms in the early stages of the disease. Theremaining cases of gallbladder cancer are usuallydetected after surgery due to gallstone disease.Gallstones, their size and pancreatic juice refluxinto the gallbladder are risk factors in thedevelopment of gallbladder cancer. In this paper theauthors carried out a retrospective research basedon an evaluation of a group of 38 patients treatedsurgically due to the gallbladder cancer in the years2005-2012 in the Second Department of Generaland Gastroenterological Surgery in BiałystokMedical University Hospital. In this group therewere 29 women and 9 men, in age between 48-86years. Although women suffered from gallbladdercancer more often than men, their survival rate wassignificantly better after the surgery. The researchshowed some benefits of extended surgicalprocedures even in patients with advanced stages ofthe disease, while the effectiveness of surgicaltreatment depends mainly on the possibility ofradical resection of the primary lesion and, eventually, the resection of lymph nodes and otherinfiltrated tissues.
