摘要：In patients with dyspeptic symptoms who havebeen treated for gastric cancer, other medicalconditions apart from cancer recurrence should beconsidered. A long small-bowel loop left afteresophagogastric anastomosis, flaccid diaphragmaticcrura, and several external factors such as hardphysical exertion can promote the development ofpostoperative hiatus hernia. The authors of thispaper present a rare case of hiatus hernia considereda late complication of primary surgery performeddue to gastric cancer. The 63-year-old patient hadundergone total gastrectomy with double tractreconstruction (DTR) six years earlier. Gastrectomywas performed with extended lymphadenectomy(>D2). Histopathologic examination of tumorspecimens showed mucinous adenocarcinoma withno lymph node metastasis and no distant metastases(pathologic staging: pT2, pN0, pM0). After sixyears, the patient was admitted to the 2ndDepartment of General and GastroenterologicSurgery with abdominal pains, malaise, weight lossand feeling of fullness after small meals. Diagnosticprocedures performed showed the presence ofhiatus hernia, a very rare complication after thisparticular surgery, with no features of cancerrecurrence. The patient was underwent surgery andthe hernia was successfully repaired.
