摘要:Diet is a major environmental factor whichmaintains metabolic balance and body homeostasis.The aim of the study was to present the latestreports on the biological activity of the foodcompounds in a critical review. It has been shownthat bioactive substances supplied with food e.g.polyphenols, flavonoids or phenolic acids exhibitimmunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory functions.What is more, they favourably downregulatemajor oncogenes and enhance suppressors’expression. Studies show that these substances canbe an important component of cancer preventionand treatment. However, there are micronutrientslike iron or copper which elevated levels in cancercells occurs and should be considered as atherapeutic targets.
