摘要:This study aims to: 1) Describe validity, practicality, and effectiveness of learning devices based on metacognition approach developed on mathematical communication ability of students in State SMP 30 of Medan; 2) Describe the improvement of mathematical communication ability using learning devices based on the metacognition approach developed. Researchers develop learning devices based on a metacognition approach using the Dick & Carey development model. The learning devices produced from this study are the teacher’s book and student’s books. From the results of this study it was found that: 1) the developed learning devices fill the criteria of valid, practical, and effective in terms of their respective criteria; 2) in the first trial there was an increase in mathematical communication ability using learning devices developed in the low category, it’s about 0.28 and in the second trial there was an increase in mathematical communication ability using learning devices developed in the medium category, it’s about 0.56.
