  • 摘要:The aim of this research is to examine the metacognitive thinking skills of university students in terms of various variables. The study was conducted in line with the descriptive survey research. The sample of the research was the individuals who are studying in the field of science, social sciences and health sciences at Fırat University. Random sampling method was preferred. The participants of the study consisted of 240 students who graduated from Fırat University or who were in the fourth grade. As the data collection tool the Metacognition Thinking Skills Perceptions Scale was used (Tuncer & Kaysi, 2013a). The results of the study showed that the average scores of the participants’ metacognitive thinking ability were high. The scores of metacognitive thinking skills, on the other hand, were found to differ significantly depending on the field of science in which pupils have studied. Another finding was that the students studying in the field of science had higher scores of metacognitive thinking ability. Additionally, the metacognitive thinking ability did not differ significantly according to the gender variable. It was also found that the “decision- making skill” sub-dimension is significantly different in favor of graduate students. Accordingly, it can be said that one of the most important ways to improve the high level thinking skills of the individuals is by developing the problem solving skill and reflecting the situations learned in advance. In this respect, it is beneficial to use problem-solving and reflective thinking techniques extensively in educational settings for the development of individuals’ cognitive thinking skills.
