摘要:This article examines the reception of a bestseller by drawing on various documents (interviews, articles) that comment on the sales of Joel Dicker's novel, La Vérité sur l'affaire Harry Quebert (2012). In addition, it will examine the author’s own comments in Bilan , a Swiss financial magazine, as well as two advertising campaigns (Swiss, Citroën) to which he contributed in the autumn of 2015. In terms of commercial success in the field of literature, they demonstrate the ambivalence provoked by the criteria of strong sales figures. Indeed, since Flaubert and Manet, a clear distinction has been established between two competing modes of legitimization: commercial “success" vs. the "prestige" of being recognized by peers. Today, this polarization of the modes of recognition is being challenged by the metamorphosis of the literary ecosystem: the criteria of literary worth are being reconfigured, in a conciliatory fashion, in discussions about the relationship between literature and the market.
