摘要:The objective of this paper is to revisit the separation of Venezuela from Gran Colombia from a perspective other than the traditional one, which tends to focus on the rivalry among the main leaders or on the “betrayal” of Simón Bolívar by the oligarchy of Caracas. On the basis of the thesis that there was a Venezuelan separatist liberalism, the idea is to show the presence of broader phenomena, such as the emergence of an idea of nation in certain sectors that strove to reestablish the so-called Former Venezuela, which had been dissolved into several departments within Gran Colombia. During the Gran Colombia period, this sort of liberal nationalism or proto-nationalism shaped the Venezuelan State as it emerged in 1830.
