摘要：This article aims to reflect on the empowerment of women as political subjects, a fundamental element for their emancipation and active participation in society. In order to reach the proposed objective, a qualitative bibliographical research was developed on different perspectives about the concepts of gender, patriarchy and empowerment of women. Empowerment involves a political process to generate understanding of the complex factors that create subordination/exclusion of women from the public/political world and stimulate awareness of reformulation/deconstruction of society's current political and social apparatuses. In conclusion, we state there is a need to take into account the power relations between men and women, and thus seek to solve not only concrete material conditions for women, but also to change the social relations of gender in society, building democracies with gender equality.
