摘要：This article deals with two interesting historical facts: the declining process of the Costa Rican Army and its subsequent abolition together with the amazing survival of this political experiment nowadays. Both facts are analyzed within the political situation of the Central American Isthmus during the last one hundred years, that is, since the opening of the Panama Canal and beyond the end of the cold war.
