摘要：Re-functioning of historical monumental structures which lost their original functions is important in the context of the continuing use of historical structures. In today's conditions where cultural tourism is important, the re-activation of historical buildings has made a great contribution to the cities in historical, social and economical terms. However, re-functioning contributes the most to the preservation of monumental structures and to the maintenance of the identities of the cities. Re-functioning of historical structures especially monumental structures needs to be planned in such a way that new functions given to the structure will not harm the original qualities of the structure, or even emphasize its features. Re-functioning of monumental buildings makes possible the re-use of these structures today as well. During the Ottoman Empire period, the Turkish bath (hammam) culture was one of the most significant features of the Turkish custom. It was possible to find a Turkish bath in everywhere within the borders of the Ottoman Empire. Turkish baths (bazaar baths or public baths) are similar to the old Roman baths in terms of their heating system but their architectural features are completely different. In this study, the general characteristics of Turkish baths will be examined. Nonetheless, the re-functioning of the Turkish baths and problems related to their conservation will be studied. Within this framework, we will observe the consequences of the transformation of the Kula Sungur Bey Bath, situated in the historic urban area of the town of Kula, to a cafeteria and an exhibition area.
其他摘要：Özgün iþlevini yitirmiþ anýtsal yapýlarýn yeniden iþlevlendirilerek kullanýlmasý, tarihi yapýlarýn sürdürülmesi baðlamýnda önem taþýmaktadýr. Kültürel turizmin önem kazandýðý günümüz koþullarýnda, tarihi yapýlarýn yeniden iþlevlendirilmesi, kentlere tarihsel, sosyal ve ekonomik katkýda bulunmaktadýr. Bununla birlikte, yapýlarý yeniden iþlevlendirme en önemli katkýsýný; hem anýtsal yapýlarýn korunmasýnda, hem de kentlerin kimliklerinin sürdürülmesinde göstermektedir. Ancak, tarihi yapýlarýn özellikle anýtsal yapýlarýn yeniden iþlevlendirilmesinde, yapýya verilecek yeni iþlevlerin, yapýnýn özgün niteliklerine zarar vermeyecek, hatta tarihi özelliklerini vurgulayacak þekilde planlanmasý gerekmektedir. Tarihi ve kültürel önem taþýyan anýtsal yapýlarýn yeniden iþlevlendirilmesi, bu yapýlarýn günümüzde de kullanýmýný mümkün kýlmaktadýr. Türk hamamlarý (çarþý hamamlarý veya halk hamamlarý), ýsýtma sistemi bakýmýndan eski Roma hamamlarýna benzemekle beraber, mimarisinde farklýlýklar taþýmaktadýr. Yýkanma kültürüne önem veren Osmanlýlar, imparatorluðun sýnýrlarýnýn ulaþtýðý her yerde irili ufaklý hamamlar yaptýrmýþtýr. Bu çalýþmada, öncelikli olarak Türk hamamlarýnýn genel karakteristikleri ve mekân özellikleri incelenecektir. Bu kapsamda, Kula ilçesinin kentsel sit alanýnda yer alan Kula Sungur Bey Hamamý'nýn kafeterya ve kýsmen sergi mekânýna dönüþümünün, yapýya olan etkisi araþtýrýlacaktýr. Ayrýca, anýtsal yapýlarýn yeniden iþlevlendirilmesinde, koruma sorunlarý ve iþlev uygunluðu tartýþýlacaktýr.
