摘要：This paper presents some reflections on the results of the Project Language beliefs and attitudes: a study on the relationship between Portuguese and contact languages . In order to carry out this qualitative research, we considered the reality of the border context between Brazil and Paraguay that characterizes the West of Paraná. We selected excerpts of the respondents’ statements regarding Spanish and Guarani as “a language spoken by the other in the border region”. These informants live in Guaíra, a city located on the border of Paraguay and the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Their statements indicate prejudiced attitudes or stigma in relation to the language varieties spoken on the border region and even to the standard Portuguese.
