摘要:The State’s response to the current economic crisis has not been the same as that of the 1980s and 1990s. While then an extraordinary extension of the unemployment benefit and pre-retirement were commonly used, the current strategy (by the State) is to extend the working life by restricting the access to these two ways of exiting the labour force. We draw on the quarterly data from the Labour Force Survey between 1976 and 2016, and the Continuous Sample of Working Lives between 2004 and 2015. Results from multinomial logistic regression show that key variables that explain differences in labour force participation have to do with the socioeconomic group and the gender role associated with men: the higher the level of education and the more complex the household structure, the longer the working life. Moreover, we confirm that the protective role of the state has retracted since 2014.
