摘要：Este texto aborda como a polícia (e principalmente os policiais) no Rio de Janeiro e em São Paulo foram representados no Império e na Primeira República em obras literárias,teatrais, crônicas e na imprensa humorística do período. Trata-se de uma maneira de apresentar, a partir de um prisma subaproveitado pela historiografia do gênero, aspectos darelação entre o público e os policiais que extrapolem o binômio violência-resistência.
其他摘要：This article shows how the police (but mainly police agents) in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo have been represented within the Empire and the First Republic. The study contemplates the analysis of literature, plays, chronicles and the humoristic press of the period. This text suggests an alternative to present, through a prism underestimated by police historiography, features of the relation between police agents and the constituency that overcome the paradigm of violence-resistance
