摘要:Today, university ranking systems are being investigated in many different environments. Particularly, university decision makers are very concerned about university ranking systems. On the other hand, there are not many serious discussions about the methodology and weaknesses of these systems. In this research, the standardization problem in university ranking systems is addressed through ‘University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP)’, by drawing attention to different dimensions of the subject. The ability to make comparisons correctly on the ranking lists of universities is largely based on whether the university names in these lists are standard. Our study covers the years between 2010, the first year that URAP has emerged, and 2015. Six different ranking lists have been examined in the above mentioned year range. It has been determined that the names of the universities in these lists are mentioned differently in different years. Between 2010 and 2015, there are 779 universities in URAP that do not have a standard name. Some universities are listed multiple times in the same year. It is clear that this does not conform with the ranking rationale. Individuals and institutions that consider university ranking systems to be important should be aware of such problems and act accordingly with the policies that they will create.
