摘要：Two groups of nursing students and their professor at the University of Pernambuco (UPE) Petrolina campus developed and facilitated a university extension project entitled, "The Importance of Education in Promoting Organ Donation." The project used a participatory methodology. Its goal was to report the experience of educational activities conducted in schools and public spaces, as well as promote discussion about the process of organ and tissue donation. Experience has shown the existence of many myths, preconceived ideas, and insufficient knowledge about this subject—especially in relation to the desire to be a donor after death and the manners in which the deceased’s family can authorize the process. After interventions, positive attitudes about the social importance of organ donation were observed in the target audience.
