摘要：El estado de salud de las personas y las comunidades está determinado por una gran cantidad de factores, sociales, económicos, culturales, políticos, estos a su vez pueden ser factores de riesgo o protección en el desarrollo de enfermedades. Ante los índices crecientes de enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles en México, es necesario estudiar los factores sociales y personales que propician su desarrollo; el estilo de vida es un factor personal, aunque socialmente influenciado, que resulta determinante en el desarrollo de estas enfermedades, se vuelve, entonces, en un reto para los servicios de salud y se convierte en un problema de salud pública.
