摘要:This study aims to determine the opinions of social studies teachers about the teaching of current issues. The study model is case study, which is among qualitativere search methods. The study group, on the other hand, consists of 12 social studies teachers whorender service at official secondary schools in the school year of 2016-2017. The data were collected by using semi-structured interview form. The data acquired from the study, on the other hand, were analyzed viade scriptive analysis method. As a result of the study; social studies teachers stated that current issues would prepare students to life, increase the irinterest in the lesson and enable them to participate in the lesson more actively. They also stated that current issues would enable students to be raised as active citizens witnessing thereal condition of society. The teachers indicated that they considered current issues a supplementary for social studies lesson andused them in the class when necessary. They stated that they mainly used question-answerand discussion methods whilet eaching current issues. It was determined that they paid attent ionto a voiding political issues and preferring issues regarding society and acquisitions. They indicated that coups, terror and anarchy had to be involve damong current issues at mostand found school books insufficient in terms of current issues. The teachers alsoindicated thatt here were problems about current issues as students would come to the class with prejudices obtained from their families and environment, there wasn’t enough time and the issues would be brought to politics.
