摘要：As there is no physical research in the problem concerning with the capaeity of Japanese body. this study was made at first in measuring the capacities of the body and its every part with the distinction of sex and age and then extended further to the observation of the relation of between the capacities of body and specific gravity, index of nutrition and the surface area of body. In arder to make these measurments, three kinls of water tank for whole body, upper limbs and lower limbs were deviced. The measuring method was to make the body sunken into the cylindrical water tank filld with water and to measure the capacity of waker overflowed. The amount of water measured thus was fixed as the capacity of body. The measured objects consisted of two hundred twenty nine people of male between three years old and twenty seven yeas old and one hundred sixty six people of female between three years old and twenty one years old. The measurement was taken on every one, forming nine items of whole body, had and neck, chin, upper limbs, fore arms, hands, lower limbs and feet. And at the same time, measurement of personal physique was also made to indicate the difference of physique between the average figure of whole Japanese and the items of those who were measured. As the result of that the points to be specially noted are as follows, (A) The growth according to the age of the capacities of whole body and its part is almost paralel, in particular, to that of the curve of growth of the weight of body. (B) The specific gravity of both male and female is 0.96~0.97 until about twelve years old, and after that it makes sudden curve upward between sixteen years old and seventeen years old. reaching from about 1.02 to 1.03 and finally gets move sidewalk again.
