其他摘要:This paper describes how the 1993 edition of the JICST Thesaurus is made in light of the updating of the 1987 edition, which was initiated shortly after the appearance of the latter, and indicates what the content and size of the former are. In bringing out the new edition, priority is given to the following. 1) some improvement in the notations of entries; 2) elimination of less frequently used descriptors from the thesaurus and transformation of those into nondescriptors; 3) addition of modern concepts to the scope by using new entries; and 4) reexamination of hierarchical relationships and related terms. Emphasis is also put on the addition of medical terms and the standardization of those notations. At the same time, a thesaurus conversion table, enabling people to obtain groups of descriptors which can relate to the new concepts provided, is created as a supplementary tool for indexing and retrieval. Further, an account of how to automatically reindex the JICST databases using the thesaurus as well as of issues to be considered is given.
