摘要：O Plano Nacional de Turismo [PNT] apresentou-se como documento orientador estratégico para o desenvolvimento da atividade turística no Brasil, sendo que sua versão 2013-2016 enfatizava a importância em sediar importantes esportivos megaeventos no País. O artigo analisa as propostas e metas constantes do planejamento da Copa FIFA 2014 e das Olimpíadas de Verão 2016. Como procedimentos metodológicos, optou-se pela pesquisa bibliográfica, exploratório-descritiva, utilizando para análise de dados a análise de conteúdo. O corpus de pesquisa foi constituído por documentos e informações oriundos das autoridades responsáveis pelos eventos, entre elas o Ministério do Turismo. Os resultados mostraram que (a) as três metas estabelecidas no PNT para os megaeventos não foram cumpridas; (b) que há carência de informações institucionais sobre os eventos; (c) que há falta de via de contato com os responsáveis pela sistematização de dados, em canais claramente estabelecidas. Apesar de bem-sucedidos em termos de organização, é possível concluir, entre outros, que os megaeventos esportivos não confirmaram a expectativa de que seriam a grande oportunidade de expansão dos indicadores turísticos do Brasil. ABSTRACT The National Tourism Plan [PNT] was presented as a strategic guiding document for the development of tourism in Brazil, and its 2013-2016 version emphasized the importance of hosting important mega-events in the country. The article analyzes the proposals and goals of the planning of the Cup FIFA 2014 and the 2016 Summer Olympics. As methodological procedures, we opted for exploratory-descriptive bibliographical research, using for data analysis the content analysis. The research corpus consisted of documents and information from the authorities responsible for the events, among them the Ministry of Tourism. The results showed that (a) the three goals established in the PNT for the mega-events were not fulfilled; (b) that there is a lack of institutional information on the events; (c) that there is a lack of contact with those responsible for data systematization, clearly established. Although successful in terms of organization, it is possible to conclude, among others, that sports mega events did not confirm the expectation that they would be a great opportunity for expansion of Brazil's tourism.
