Online Public Access Catalogue for libraries appeared since around three decades and Web OPACs began to emerge in the late 1990’s. The literature review has revealed that the behaviour of academic libraries users has drastically changed in recent years. Many academic libraries are migrating to Web based Online Catalogue from traditional text-based versions. The OPACs and Web OPACs technology in libraries are trying to explain various features, applications, advantages, characteristics of OPAC and Web OPAC. It has found expectation and perception of OPAC and Web OPAC users. Also, the authors found through the literature review that so far not a single survey regarding the attitudes of the Regional Institute of Education Library users towards the use of OPAC and Web OPAC. The purpose of this study was to investigate users’ attitude towards the use of OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) at Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru, Karnataka, India. The survey research design was adopted for this study. Four objectives were formulated to guide the study. The questionnaire was the major instruments used for generating data. Though, the authors also interviewed some faculty and staff and personally observed the users attitudes towards the OPAC. The population of this research study consists of 13 % of the registered students, staff and faculty of RIE institution. The questionnaires were distributed to the students who made use of the library and they were encouraged to return it immediately. The completed and returned questionnaires were analysed using simple descriptive statistics, percentage and frequency distribution. Out of 200 questionnaires distributed 125 were completed and returned by the respondents, while, 110 were found suitable for analysis. Analysis of the findings showed that majority of users preferred going directly to OPAC to explore the resources before going to the shelves. The study also revealed that respondents viewed the catalogue as time saving, as they felt it took them less time to find books using OPAC. The study further revealed that most of the students need periodic orientation towards the usage of OPAC by library staff.
